Any tag game is almost guaranteed to be a lot of energetic fun, and Rock, Paper, Scissors Tag is no exception. It is one of the ‘one-on-one’ variants, that only needs two to play or if there is group everybody pairs up and plays against those they partnered with. This one-on-one variant was suggested by Kev Weir (@just.playsports.)

You need two home bases (or safe ground) a decent distance from each other and a start line or point that is halfway between. This works well if you have something like a tennis or badminton court already marked out and can use the centre and base lines.

Each pair faces each other at the centre line with the pool noodle between them on ground. When ready they play Rock, Paper, Scissors, (aka Scissors, Paper, Stone) the winner of the round becomes the chaser and has to grab the pool noodle and tag the other player with it – before the other player reaches their home base/line. The loser of the Rock, Paper, Scissors obviously has to start running for their safe/home line as soon as they know they have lost, to avoid being caught. If the chaser is successful they score a point. Repeat as often as desired.

Alternatives

Use a football or softball to play this dodge ball style instead of a pool noodle. Player who wins the Rock Paper Scissors round has to tag the other with the ball before they reach safety.

Play as teams, each member of the team pairing up against a member of the other team. Those scoring points, score a point for their team. Team with the most points at the end wins.
