A team tag game suggested by Kev Weir (@just.playsports)
Equipment:
You can get away without any equipment, but you need to demark two smallish areas or locales (such as a poles or goal posts). These become the home bases for the VIPs. You may find it easier to use a couple of hoops if these are available.
Large hall or outside playing area that allows players to run around.
Play:
A player on each team is selected to be the VIP and they stand at their VIP Home base.
Everybody else plays all-in Tag (everybody has the possibility of tagging each other. First to tag wins. If players tag at the same time, use Scissors, Paper, Stone to decide the winner). Tagged players sit down where they are when caught.
The VIPs role is to rescue their team mates, by running out of their home base to touch their team mate on the head or shoulder and restore them back into the game. VIPs can touch more than one if they want or get the opportunity too. They can also run back to base whenever they need to, because if the VIP is tagged, it is game over!
While the VIP is in the circle or touching the pole, they are safe and cannot be tagged. However, to avoid a stalemate which could happen if all their team have been caught, their base is only safe if there is still one member of their team still active. They must run and attempt to rescue team member/s if all have been caught.
A variation is where the VIP home base is never safe and it’s up to team members to protect their VIP from being tagged. However, in this case the VIP simply starts from their home base and does not need to return to it as there is no benefit in doing so.
