Words 'tango' and 'helicopter' against a colourful background.

One of games used in the BBC Radio 4’s programme “I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue” (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qnwb).

Typically played by two teams of 2. In this game, each team member on one team has to come up with words which have no relationship to the last word previously stated by their other teammate, then vice versa.

The opposing team can challenge at any point if they regard the two words have a relationship. If they are correct or the adjudicator agrees, the process passes to them and they now have come up with random words.

It’s not as easy as you think. Your memory works on semantic linking, so it naturally thinks of words that are related in some way (even if those words seem random to others).

Scoring wise, there doesn’t appear to be any scoring in the actual show. It’s very much done for laughs and the excuses for challenging the opposing team can be ‘very’ creative 🙂 If you wanted to play this more competatively, you could score based on which team comes up with the longest string of random unrelated words.
